Assembly elections will be held in Delhi in a few months. The Election Commission has started its preparations. The Election Commission has started a special summary to prepare the electoral roll for all 70 Delhi assembly seats.
On October 29, the Electoral Commission published the draft integrated list. Claims and objections will be registered until November 28. Once all claims and objections have been resolved before December 24, the final electoral roll will be published on January 6, 2025.
It is necessary to update the electoral roll so that new voters can cast their vote. Assembly elections will be held in Delhi in February next year.
According to the draft released on Tuesday, the estimated population of Delhi is over 2.17 crore. There are more than 1.53 million voters among them, of which 82.78 lakh are men and 70.77 lakh are women. 1,231 voters belong to the third gender. The number of voters aged between 18 and 19 years is 1.55 lakh.
How to check the name on the electoral roll?
There are many ways to check your name on the electoral roll. The draft electoral roll list is available on the Delhi Chief Executive’s website www.ceodelhi.gov.in.
The names can be verified online by visiting the Election Commission website electoralsearch.eci.gov.in. You can also check your name on the ‘Voter Helpline’ mobile app. Disabled people can check their names on ‘Saksham App’. Apart from this, you can also check your name by calling the help number 1950.
What happens if there is no name?
In the press release issued by the Delhi chief executive, it is said that those who turn 18 years before January 1, 2025 can register their names in the electoral roll. To do this, it will be necessary to complete form 6.
Apart from these, people living in Delhi who will turn 18 years before April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2025 can also add their names through Form-6.
If anything needs to be added or changed in the EPIC card i.e. voter card, you can do so by filling Form-8.
All complaints and objections can be lodged by visiting the Election Commission website voters.eci.gov.in. But all this will have to be done before November 28. Only then will they be able to vote in the assembly elections to be held in Delhi next year.
Voter ID alone is not enough
It is generally believed that one can vote only if one has a voter identification card. But voter identification alone is not enough. To cast a vote in the elections, the voter’s name must appear on the final electoral list.
What were the results in 2020?
The dates of the Delhi assembly elections in 2020 were announced on January 6. While, after the vote on February 8, the results arrived on February 11. In these elections, the common man had won 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP won 8 seats.
