History of Rama Ekadashi Fast History of Rama Ekadashi Fast
According to legend, in ancient times there was a king named Muchkund. He had a very good friendship with Indra and also Yama, Kuber, Varun and Vibhishana were his friends. This king was a very religious person, devoted to Vishnu and ruled with justice. That king had a daughter, whose name was Chandrabhaga. That girl was married to Shobhan, son of Chandrasen. Once, Shobhan came to his in-laws’ house. In those days, Punyadayini Ekadashi ‘Rama’ would also come soon.
As the fast day approached, a deep thought arose in Chandrabhaga’s mind that my husband was very weak and my father’s orders were very harsh. On Dashami, the king made an announcement throughout the kingdom by beating drums that food should not be eaten on Ekadashi. As soon as Shobhan heard the drum announcement, Shobhan became very worried and said to his wife: Oh my God! What should I do now? I won’t be able to bear hunger in any way. Please tell me a solution that can save my life; Otherwise, I will definitely lose my life.
Chandrabhaga began to say: O Lord! In my father’s kingdom no one eats on the day of Ekadashi. Even elephants, horses, camels, cats, cows, etc., cannot consume grass, food, water, etc., so what can we say about humans? If you want to eat, go somewhere else, because if you want to stay here you will definitely have to fast. Hearing this, Shobhan started saying, Oh my God! I will definitely keep the fast, whatever is in my destiny will be seen. Thinking this way, Shobhan kept a fast and began to suffer greatly from hunger and thirst.
When Surya Narayan set and the time of night vigil came, it was very joyful for the Vaisnavas, but very sad for Shobhan. Shobhan passed away in the morning. Then the king cremated him with aromatic wood. But Chandrabhaga did not burn his body with his father’s permission and started living in his father’s house after Shobhan’s funeral.
Due to the influence of Rama Ekadashi, Shobhan got a beautiful Devpur on the Mandarachal mountain, full of riches and free of enemies. He was adorned with precious clothes, ornaments and umbrellas and a canopy built on golden pillars studded with extremely beautiful precious stones and Vaidurya gems, adorned with many types of crystal gems, sitting on a throne with Gandharvas and Apsaras, he used to look so elegant. as if another Indra was sitting there. A Brahmin named Som Sharma, who lived in Muchukund Nagar, was wandering there during a pilgrimage and recognized Shobhan as Shobhan, the king’s son-in-law, and approached him. Recognizing him, Shobhan also got up from his seat and approached him, bowed before him and asked him a good question.
The Brahmin said that King Muchukund and his wife are fine. Even in the city it is good in every way, but oh king! We are surprised. Tell your story about how you found a city so beautiful that you had never seen or heard of it. Then Shobhan said that by fasting on Rama Ekadashi of Kartik Krishna, I got this city, but it is unstable. Take measures to stabilize it.
The Brahmin began to say: O King! If you tell me why it is not stable and how it can be made stable, then I will definitely accept that solution. Don’t misunderstand what I say. Shobhan said I have observed this fast without any faith. So all this is unstable. If you tell this whole story to Muchukund’s daughter Chandrabhaga, then she can stabilize herself. Hearing this, the great Brahmin returned to his city and narrated the entire story to Chandrabhaga.
Hearing the brahmin’s words, Chandrabhaga very happily began to say to the brahmin: O brahmin! Have you seen all these things directly or are you talking about dreams? The brahmin began to say: O daughter! I have seen your husband directly in Mahavan. At the same time, I have seen that their city is like the city of the gods and no one can conquer it. He also said that it is not stable. Measures must be taken so that it can remain stable. Chandrabhaga started saying O Vipra! Take me there, I really want to see my husband. I will make that city stable with the virtues that I have made. You must do such work that unites us because uniting those who are separated is a great virtue.
Hearing this, the Brahmin Som Sharma took Chandrabhaga to the ashram of sage Vamdev near the Mandarachal mountain. After hearing everything, Vamdev ji anointed Chandrabhaga by reciting Veda mantras. Then, due to the influence of the sage’s mantra and Ekadashi fast, Chandrabhaga’s body became divine and attained divine speed. After this, she approached her husband with great joy. Shobhan was very happy to see his beloved wife coming. And he called him and made him sit on his left side.
Chandrabhaga began to say: O Prannath! You accept my virtue. I have been observing the religious fast of Ekadashi since I was eight years old in my father’s house. Due to the glory of this virtue, this city of yours will be stabilized and will remain filled with all deeds until the end of the holocaust. In this way, Chandrabhaga adorned herself with divine ornaments and clothes and began to live happily with her husband. In this way, people who read or hear the greatness of this Ekadashi with all their hearts, become free from all sins and reach the world of. Vishnu. And those who fast on Rama or Rambha Ekadashi, with the effect of this fast, all their sins, including that of killing a Brahma, are destroyed. And Vaikuntha Dham is attained.
