‘Rebels’ will ruin political game in Maharashtra, how tension rose between NDA and Indian alliance

Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024

The nomination date for the Maharashtra Assembly elections has ended. A total of 7,995 candidates have filed nominations for 288 seats in the state. The BJP-led NDA i.e. Grand Alliance includes Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP(S) are part of the Congress-led India Alliance (Maha Vikas Aghadi). Despite this, due to the entry of rebel leaders in many seats, two candidates from the NDA and the Indian alliance are in the fight, due to which political tension between both alliances has increased.

This time in Maharashtra all parties are facing rebellion from their leaders. If some leaders of the parties included in the NDA and India alliance did not get nominations, then the independents have entered the electoral fray. Due to this, the situation has become such that Shinde’s Shiv Sena rebel is in the field against the BJP and the BJP rebel is in the field against the NCP. If the rebel candidates contesting as independents do not withdraw their names until November 4 and remain in the elections till the end, it will be a headache not only for the official candidates but also for the alliance.

Gopal Shetty is a big name among the rebels.

Among the rebels who have filed their BJP candidacy, an important name is Gopal Shetty. Gopal is a two-time MP and MP from Mumbai. He has filed his nomination as an independent candidate against the party’s official candidate Sanjay Upadhyay in Mumbai’s Borivali assembly constituency. Thus, even if BJP’s Bala Bhegde did not get the nomination, the independents have entered the fray.
