Islamabad: Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, feels great relief. He was released on Thursday after remaining behind bars for almost nine months in the Toshakhana corruption case. Bibi has been released after paying bail of Rs 10 lakh. A day earlier, the Islamabad High Court had granted him bail in a case of alleged corruption related to the purchase and sale of government gifts. Bibi, 50, was arrested on January 31.
PTI confirmed
The information about Bibi’s release has been provided by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party through a WhatsApp message. Confirming the release, the party said: “Former first lady Bushra Bibi has been released from jail.” The message said that his arrest took place on January 31, when he and Imran Khan were convicted in a corruption case. Babi was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
What was the problem?
In the Toshakhana case, it was alleged that Imran Khan and his third wife, Bushra Bibi, were involved in corruption. Both had made profits by selling gifts received from foreign dignitaries. During the bail hearing, Islamabad High Court Judge Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb asked the Federal Investigation Agency investigator about the need to further interrogate Bushra Bibi. During this, the officer said that the investigation was completed and now there is no need for interrogation.
Imran Khan is in jail
Imran Khan has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for 350 days in three different cases. The Islamabad Local Court convicted him in the Toshakhana case on August 5, 2023, following which he was arrested from his house in Zaman Park, Islamabad and sent to prison. He was later convicted in two more cases. However, Imran has been acquitted in all these cases. After being released in the fake Nikah case on July 13, he was arrested in another Toshakhana-related case.
