CAIT general secretary and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal highlighted the vibrant impact of the “Vocal for Local” movement, with most purchases focused on Indian-made products. Khandelwal said, “China is likely to suffer a loss of Rs 1.25 trillion this season due to declining sales of Diwali-related Chinese products.”

Also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to support local artisans, CAIT has encouraged trade associations to increase sales to local women, potters and artisans, to ensure that they too celebrate Diwali with prosperity.

Dhanteras is traditionally celebrated by worshiping Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber and purchasing new items to invite prosperity. Gold and silver jewelry, utensils, vehicles, electronics, business equipment, and household items remain popular purchases. According to Pankaj Arora, national president of CAIT Indian Jewelers and Goldsmiths Federation (AIJGF), yesterday i.e. on Dhanteras (October 29), gold sales alone reached an estimated Rs 20,000 crore , while silver sales were around Rs 2,500 crore.

Arora further said, “Due to the increase in prices, fewer products were sold by weight, but there has been an increase in monetary sales.” He said that 25 tons of gold and 250 tons of silver were sold throughout the country. Additionally, there was a revival in demand for antique silver coins and prices remained between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,300 per coin.

Apart from this, Delhi’s busy shopping malls including Chandni Chowk, Dariba Kalan, Sadar Bazaar and Lajpat Nagar also witnessed a surge in sales as shoppers flocked to the markets on the auspicious day.

Vedic of CAIT described Dhanteras as the day of appearance of Lord Dhanvantari, who is a symbol of health and well-being. Explaining its importance in food and hospitality, he said: “It is customary to buy brass utensils on this day.” Also, Lord Yama, the god of death, is worshiped by lighting ‘Yam Deepak’ in the south direction, an ancient practice considered auspicious during Dhanteras.
