As the festival of Diwali approaches, holidays have been declared in schools and colleges for several days in some states. But at the same time, in some states no holiday has been made regarding this festival, there are many reasons for this but the main one is cultural diversity. Because of this diversity, many states have not provided for special licenses or have granted nominal licenses. For this reason, the festival has not been celebrated mainly in states like Kerala, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, etc.

Jammu and Kashmir

There is no Diwali holiday in Jammu and Kashmir. The government and people here give importance to their local traditions and festivals. Although a large number of people here celebrate the festival of Diwali, Diwali is not recognized as a government holiday.

Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

Even in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, local festivals have more importance than Diwali. Local tribal cultures have their own characteristics in the high and mountainous areas of Meghalaya, where such festivals take priority. This is the reason why there is no official holiday in schools during Diwali here either.

Kerala

Even in Kerala, the importance of Diwali is less; Here people have only been given one holiday on November 1 to celebrate Diwali.

Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh too, only one government holiday has been granted on the festival of Diwali. Here October 31 is a holiday.

Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand there is also a holiday on November 1 on the occasion of Diwali, but here the 3rd is a Sunday, so schools, universities, etc. They will open on the 4th.

When is Diwali this year?

This year, there are Diwali holidays on different dates in different states. Some states celebrate Diwali on October 31, 2024 (Thursday) and others on November 1. So, this festival is celebrated on different dates in different states.
