He said that this year 16 percent fewer cases were reported
Stubble burning in Punjab (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: Responding to the increasing air pollution in northern India, including Punjab, the Punjab Agriculture Minister said that this problem is not only related to burning of rice residue. The Minister of Agriculture said that we believe that burning rice residue causes air pollution, but it is incorrect to say that only this causes air pollution.
He said the state government is making all efforts at its level to create awareness among farmers. At the district and block level, officials are raising awareness among farmers not to burn stubble. For this reason, farmers burned 16 percent less stubble this year than last year. Sharing the figures, the Minister of Agriculture said that until October 23 of this year, stubble was burned in 1,638 places, a figure much less than the 1,946 cases last year.
Farmers should take advantage of the advanced Kisan mobile application.
The Agriculture Minister also informed about the launch of ‘Unnat Kisan’ mobile application, through which 1.30 lakh CRM machines have been linked to this application to provide easy access to stubble management machines to the small and marginal farmers. He said that a Rs 500 crore action plan for stubble management has been drawn up this year and the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is fully committed to addressing this issue.
The Cabinet Minister said that the reduction in incidents of stubble burning is a direct proof of the concerted efforts of the Punjab government and the farming community. He said our initiatives, including provision of CRM machines and appointment of nodal officers, are yielding positive results. He said that the ‘Unnat Kisan’ mobile application is supporting the government’s efforts to address this issue by providing easy access to stubble management tools to our farmers.
