Teams’ tension increased before IPL withholding, this rule caught the list

IPL 2025: The most talked about thing in the cricket world right now for the India vs New Zealand test series is the retention of IPL. BCCI has already announced that all 10 IPL teams have to submit the list of all their retained players by October 31, so that the further process can be started. Meanwhile, the retention rules that have been set this time have increased the tension on the teams. Even if teams want to, they think ten times before retaining the players of their choice.

An enormous amount will have to be spent on the first, second and third retention.

In fact, as per BCCI rules, all teams can retain a maximum of 6 players. The price of the first hold remained at Rs 18 million, the second at Rs 14 million and the third at Rs 11 million. After this, if the team wants to make the fourth hold, they will have to spend 18 million rupees and then for the fifth hold, they will have to spend up to 14 million rupees. Apart from this, the team will also have an RTM card i.e. Right to Match. The thing to keep in mind is that if the team retains an uncapped player, his price will be just Rs 4 crore. Uncapped means a player who has not yet played an international match.

A lot of money will be spent just to retain three players

Now this is where we are stuck. The cost of retention is so high that teams think about it ten times. Most IPL teams want to retain many of their players, but they didn’t think it would be necessary to spend so much money for it. Although this time the BCCI has increased the purse to Rs 120 crore, even after this the teams are worried and thinking. There is also the tension that if so much money is spent on just three or four players, then how will the rest of the team be formed. As per IPL rules, any team can have a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players.

Discussion continues between team management over the list of retained players

This time, from the discussions that are emerging so far, it seems that many great players will be released from their respective teams. Something that had rarely been seen before. Because of this, when the players go to the auction venue, the excitement will also be at its peak. The BCCI may have given a relaxation of five to six detentions, but very few teams will reach such a high number. The teams thinking would be that it would be better to release the player and buy him back in the auction at a lower price, this could be a profitable deal. However, discussions between the teams’ management still continue. Soon, that is, on the afternoon of October 31, it will be known which team held whom and who was released.
