Many districts of West Bengal and Odisha are on alert due to cyclonic storm ‘Dana’. Cyclonic Storm Dana is currently heading towards the Odisha coast. This cyclonic storm may hit Bhitarkanika National Park and the shores of Dhamra port in Odisha. It will bring heavy rain and storms to the state on Friday morning. Due to Cyclonic Storm Dana, there will be heavy rain along with strong winds in the southern part of West Bengal and coastal areas of Odisha. Half of Odisha’s population is at risk of being affected by this storm.
Between 3 and 4 lakh people have been evacuated.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the state government’s preparations. CM Majhi said that till Wednesday night only 30 per cent of people living in the identified ‘danger zone’ or around 3-4 lakh people could be evacuated. The process of evacuating people from all dangerous areas will continue on Thursday morning.
The effect will be visible starting tonight.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Cyclonic Storm Dana could make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port on Friday morning. However, Cyclone Dana is likely to make landfall starting Friday morning and the evening of October 24.
The winds will blow with a speed of 120 KM
IMD director general Mrityunjay Mohapatra said the maximum speed during the landfall process is likely to be around 120 kilometers per hour. “Therefore, heavy rain, winds and storm surge will peak around the time of landfall,” he said. Which is between the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25.
Sea waves will grow up to 2 meters high
When Cyclone Dana hits Odisha, the state may have to face many problems. Odisha and West Bengal may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. There is also the possibility of sea waves up to 2 meters high.
High tide will last about four hours
According to IMD sources, the wind speed will be 100 to 110 kmph in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts. Which can increase up to 120 kilometers per hour. In addition, during the landslide, there will be extremely heavy rain and high sea tide for about four hours.
SDRF-NDRF equipment alert
Seeing the impact of the cyclonic storm on West Bengal, Governor CV Anand Bose said, “We are going through a period of crisis right now.” Cyclone Dana is approaching, but in Bengal we have faced many storms and we will also face this and that is why the SDRF and NDRF teams have been alerted.
Guidelines issued
Appealing to the people, the Governor said to follow all guidelines issued by the government and the Disaster Management Authority. Follow the instructions given by them. The entire disaster management machinery of the State Government and Government of India is fully prepared to fight against Cyclonic Storm Dana.
