After the harassment and assault by her husband escalated beyond limits, the woman left her in-laws’ house and started living at her maternal home in Jaipur. The people of the society also explained to the young man and his family but things did not work out.
A woman resident of Jaipur has filed a case of dowry harassment and assault against her husband, who works as deputy commissioner in the Income Tax Department in Ahmedabad. The woman alleges that her husband and family pressured her to bring a dowry of Rs 1 million and give her a Fortuner car after marriage. When their demands were not met, they mentally tortured him and even beat him. The woman, who currently lives in her maternal home, lodged a complaint at the Chitrakoot police station in Jaipur.
According to police, the victim’s name is Purva Bagdi, who lives in Chitrakoot area. She has accused her husband and IRS agent Chirag Jhagwal, a resident of Jaipur, of harassing her for dowry. According to the complaint filed by the victim with the police, she got engaged to Chirag in May 2022. Even though the financial situation of the family was not very good, at the request of the boy’s family, his family organized the engagement function at the Rambagh Palace Hotel. At that time, the girl gave him many expensive gifts, including Rs 5 lakh in cash and a diamond ring. The woman’s family had to borrow money from relatives to cover the expenses of the engagement.
The victim further said that after this, while negotiating, the boy’s family demanded to give him one million rupees in cash as well as the Volvo company’s SUV or Fortuner car for the marriage. After which the girl’s parents explained their situation and said that they could not give that much. Hearing this, Chirag’s parents Maheshchandra and Kavita became angry. He said that our son is from the IRS and is in the Income Tax Department, we have to take care of our state.
Purva said that despite all these demands, somehow my family arranged the marriage at a big resort located on Ajmer Road in Jaipur. On the wedding day in December 2022, the groom received Rs 51 lakh in cash at the time of the wedding procession and apart from this, Rs 1.5 lakh was given during the wedding and Rs 7 lakh at the time of marriage. But even with all this the boys were not satisfied and accused my family of insulting them in society. During this, Chirag’s brother and his parents got up and left, and also threatened not to send the bride away.
According to the victim, Chirag’s family agreed to take the bride only after the parents assured that their demands would be met soon. The woman said that even after this the attitude of the boy’s family did not change and they continued to pressure her to bring dowry. The woman said that when Chirag took me with him to Ahmedabad, these people kept pressuring me to bring money and Chirag even beat me for this. Later, the woman reached her maternal home in Jaipur from Ahmedabad and on July 16 filed a complaint against her husband and his family.
Giving information in this regard, a police officer said that after the medical examination of the victim, a case was initiated against her husband. The official said that the statements of all the victim’s relatives have been recorded and the accused is also being called for questioning. After this legal action will be taken.
