Navrangpur: A shocking case has come to light in Papadahandi in Navrangpur, Odisha. Here, due to religious conversion, a person’s body was not given a place to bury it for approximately 32 hours. The villagers did not allow the body to be buried in their crematorium, since only Hindus are cremated there. Only when the Additional Tehsildar and the police intervened in the matter could the body be buried.

What’s the whole deal?

According to information, about two years ago Domu Jani of Pandikot village abandoned the Hindu religion and converted to Christianity. Domu Jani passed away yesterday morning. Due to the religious conversion, relatives were worried about where to bury the body.

When the family asked the villagers to provide space in the village crematorium, they did not allow space for the grave. No one even came forward to carry the corpse on their shoulders.

Tehsildar and additional police also reached the spot and tried to convince the villagers, but they did not agree. After a long debate, the villagers agreed. After which the Additional Tehsildar fixed a place.

When no one came forward to help, some local journalists came forward and carried the body with him. Seeing the journalists, other villagers also came forward and the body was finally buried 32 hours after death.

Speaking on the issue, Additional Tehsildar said, “We received news that the villagers were refusing to bury the body of a deceased person in the crematorium and were not providing space because he had converted to Christianity a few days ago. As soon as we received the news of the matter, we reached Pandikot village and talked to the villagers. The villagers did not agree for a long time. In the end we provided a government place to the family and the body is being buried in government land. (Shubham Kumar reports from Odisha)

The statement of Additional Tehsildar (Paprahandi) Sasmita Kumari Jena came out.
