This dream of Pakistan is broken! Russia and China also had to accept defeat in the face of India’s no: Pakistan’s dream of joining the BRICS shattered the ungranted entry even after support from Russia and China.

With the end of the BRICS reunion, Pakistan’s dream of joining this organization has been shattered. Despite the support of China and Russia, Pakistan has failed to join the BRICS group. Not even Pakistan has got a place in the list of new partner countries of the BRICS organization. At the same time, Türkiye has been included among the partner countries. Pakistan had formally applied for BRICS membership last year.

China had promised Pakistan

China and Russia had supported Pakistan’s inclusion in the BRICS. It is said that India was not very satisfied with Pakistan’s entry into the BRICS. India, a fast-growing economy and the largest country in South Asia, is a founding member of this group that initially included Brazil (B), Russia (R), India (I), China (C) and later South Africa added. After which the first letter S of its name was taken from the name of South Africa, after which the organization was renamed BRICS.

China had given assurances of including Pakistan in the BRICS, but Pakistan did not even get a place in the list of its partner countries, let alone in the BRICS. Besides China, Russia also said it supports Pakistan’s membership in BRICS.

Did PM Modi give a message to Russia and China on Pakistan?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India is ready to welcome more “partner countries” to the BRICS, but decisions in this regard should be taken unanimously. At the 16th BRICS summit, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed his message through gestures about Russia and China’s support for Pakistan’s entry into the 9-member group. Prime Minister Modi said that the views of the founding members of BRICS must be respected. In addition to Russia and China, the other two founding countries of the BRICS are India and Brazil.

At the BRICS meeting, Prime Minister Modi also asked BRICS members to focus on tackling terrorism and the forces that feed terrorists and said there is no room for double standards on this issue.

The BRICS admits new members only by consensus, so it was clear that India’s opposition to Pakistan’s membership could derail its attempt to join the group, even if some other founding members were in favor. As expected, India did not agree to include Pakistan in this group. Most Pakistani leaders hoped that with the help of Russia and China, Pakistan would succeed in joining the BRICS, but it could not happen.

Pakistan had applied to join BRICS

Pakistan had formally applied for BRICS membership last year. Some senior diplomats of Pakistan also visited many BRICS countries to garner support for joining BRICS.

Pakistan wants to strengthen its alliance with influential economies of the world by joining the BRICS. By joining the BRICS, Pakistan will gain a lot both economically and diplomatically. But this is not beneficial for India in any way because bilateral relations between the two countries are going through their worst phase in at least the last five years. India, which is fighting Pakistani terrorism, does not want to have relations with this country on this front and India’s stance in Kazan for the BRICS summit made it clear.

Pakistan had accused

In June last year, Pakistan’s Department of Foreign Affairs had claimed that its participation in talks held during the BRICS summit in China had been rejected by “one member”. Although Pakistan did not adopt the name India during this period, it had definitely said that the BRICS bloc should take future decisions based on the interests of the developing world.

But this time Pakistan had full hope that despite India’s opposition, the doors of BRICS would be opened to it with the support of Russia and China. It was also said that India could also support Pakistan’s membership in the BRICS.

Let us tell you that in the month of September, when Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk visited Pakistan, he announced during his visit that Russia welcomes Pakistan’s application for BRICS membership. Many analysts also saw Russia’s support for Pakistan’s membership in BRICS as a response to the closeness between India and the United States.

How were brix formed?

The alliance started with just five countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), but last year the BRICS group included four new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This became known as BRICS. Further.

Many countries want to join the BRICS. Pakistan was also one of these countries. The BRICS as a group today represent almost half of the world’s population. According to many reports, in terms of GDP, the BRICS countries account for around 30 percent of the world’s GDP.
