Bhubaneshwar: An elderly woman died in a shelter set up to take shelter from Cyclone ‘Dana’ in Odisha’s Kendrapara district. Giving information about this on Friday, authorities said the deceased woman was identified as 82-year-old Hemlata Nayak. He said Hemlata was a resident of Bankual village of Kendrapara district. He was transferred to the shelter built to escape the cyclone on the same Thursday.
‘Death due to sudden cardiac arrest’
This shelter was established in Kalyan Mandap Dangamal area of Dangamal Gram Panchayat of Rajnagar block of Kendrapada district to escape the cyclonic storm ‘Dana’. Rajnagar block development officer (BDO) Nishant Mishra said, “The woman died due to sudden cardiac arrest and it is not a cyclone-related incident.” BDO said the government is arranging his last rites at Swargadwar in Puri as per his family’s wishes.

At the same time, there is news of one death during the ravages of ‘Dana’ in West Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said one person died due to Cyclone Dana in the state, while the administration evacuated around 2.16 lakh people from low-lying areas. Banerjee held a review meeting at the Secretariat overnight to monitor the situation and directed officials to ensure relief material reaches all those affected by the cyclone.
Heavy rain warning in South Bengal
Mamata Banerjee said in her statement, “Only one person has died in this natural disaster. The man died while carrying out some cable related work at his house. This is extremely unfortunate. We will get a clear picture from the autopsy. If required, we (state government) will help the family. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in many districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, after severe cyclone ‘Dana’ weakened into a cyclonic storm after make landfall in Odisha on Friday (Language)
