By-elections are being held in Mirapur (Muzaffarnagar), Kundarki (Moradabad), Ghaziabad, Khair (Aligarh), Karhal (Mainpuri), Shishamau (Kanpur), Phulpur (Prayagraj), Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar) and Majhwan (Mirzapur).

In this regard, 149 nomination applications were filed till October 25, of which 34 in Meerapur, 19 in Kundarki, 19 in Ghaziabad, 16 in Khair, 10 in Karhal, 11 in Shishmau, 19 in Phulpur, 14 in Katehari and 17 in Majhwan. . Happened.

After scrutiny, 95 candidacies were considered valid and, after the last date for withdrawal of candidacies, 90 candidates remain in the fight for 9 seats in the by-elections. The election results will be announced on November 23.

Eight seats in the by-elections remained vacant after the MLAs were elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections, while by-elections are being held in Shishmau due to the conviction of SP MLA Irfan Solanki in a criminal case.

In the 2022 assembly elections, Sheeshmau, Katehari, Karhal, Milkipur and Kundarki were in the hands of the SP, while Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhwan and Khair were in the hands of the BJP. RLD was in possession of Meerapur seat.

The ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh has announced its candidates for eight of the nine assembly seats in the by-elections to be held on November 13, leaving one seat for its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

Congress announced that it will not field its candidates in 9 assembly by-elections and will support SP or other India Block candidates.
