New Delhi: A ruckus broke out at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University on Tuesday night during a Diwali celebration organized by some students. Two groups of students faced each other. The dispute escalated so much that it reached a brawl. It is alleged that students of a community started protesting against the celebration of Diwali. Students from certain communities, who came in large numbers, protested against the lighting of lamps and Rangoli. During this period a fight also took place.

During this, the students of a particular community raised religious slogans. In the video you can see that more than 100 people are making a fuss. People are also raising slogans of Allah Hu Akbar and Palestine Zindabad. The atmosphere became tense due to the slogans.

Students associated with the ABVP had organized the programme.

Police said the incident occurred near Gate 7 around 7:30 am to 8 pm No FIR has been registered yet. Police have been deployed outside the campus to ensure peace. A group of students belonging to ABVP were installing lamps and making Rangoli for Diwali when another group of angry students disrupted the decorations, leading to a clash. A video of the dispute is going viral on social media.

Accusations and counter-accusations from both groups continue

The JMI unit of the Students’ Federation of India claimed that the ABVP attacked the students under the pretext of Diwali celebrations. Denying these allegations, ABVP national media coordinator Ashutosh Singh said that students associated with ABVP had organized a Diwali programme. This continued peacefully for an hour or two. However, after that, some students from another group came and interrupted the program. He damaged some lamps and started raising slogans like ‘Palestine Zindabad’.
