Waqf Amendment Bill: Ruckus again in the CPM meeting, opposition MPs expressed objections to this.

Uproar again at CPM meeting.

There was a stir at the CPM meeting to consider the Waqf Amendment Bill on Tuesday. As soon as Delhi Waqf Board Administrator Ashwini Kumar reached inside with his team for the presentation, members of opposition parties started creating ruckus and raising slogans. He termed it illegal to call the administrator of the Delhi Waqf Board. The administrator and team of the Delhi Waqf Board presented their views before the committee for about an hour.

During the presentation, the Delhi Waqf Board presented its stand before the committee and supported the Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2024 brought by the Modi government. The committee was also informed about illegal occupation of Waqf properties in Delhi. While representatives of the Delhi Waqf Board continued to present their views, opposition MPs continued to raise slogans near the president’s seat.

Delhi Waqf Board administrators are not Muslims

Opposition members were agitated over the fact that the administrators of the Delhi Waqf Board are non-Muslims. According to the law, non-Muslims should not be part of the Waqf Board. On this, a BJP MP said that when Arvind Kejriwal was the Chief Minister, he had appointed a Hindu administrator in the Delhi Waqf Board.

The Delhi government side should also be heard.

Opposition MPs were also agitated as the Delhi Waqf Board put forward its stand without seeking permission from the Delhi government. While on Monday itself, after discussing with the Lok Sabha general secretary, the JPC chairman had said that the administrators of the Delhi Waqf Board can present their views before the committee. During the presentation of the Delhi Waqf Board itself, opposition MPs demanded from JPC president Jagdambika Pal that in such a situation, the Delhi government’s side should also be heard.

The CPM president accepted this demand of the opposition members. Now, in the next CPM meeting, the representative of the Minority Ministry of the Delhi Government will have the opportunity to present his position before the committee. Earlier on Monday, the opposition walked out of the meeting protesting against the summons of the Delhi Waqf Board administrator.
