The committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved Rs 1,115 crore for disaster reduction and capacity building projects in 15 states. Of this amount, Rs 1,000 million has been allocated for disaster mitigation projects and Rs 115.67 million for training and capacity building of civil defense volunteers.
This amount has been sanctioned for several states, including:
- 139 crore for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
- 100 crore for Maharashtra
- 72 crore for Karnataka and Kerala
- 50 crores for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal
- This includes Rs 378 crore for the eight northeastern states.
In addition, some proposals of the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to reduce the risk of landslides were also considered.
Earlier, the committee had approved Rs 3,225 crore for urban flood and glacial lake flood (GLOF) risk management projects.
The Union Home Ministry approved these projects to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Disaster Resilient India” to reduce loss of life and property during disasters.
