A report of the National Sample Survey has arrived. This survey has revealed that there are approximately 2 percent of children in India who have never been to school. Kerala is the only state where all children have gone to school.
The surprising thing that has come to light in this survey is that financial limitations are not the main reason for not going to school. Rather, most children do not go to school because they do not want to study themselves or because their parents do not want to teach them.
The survey revealed that among children who did not go to school, about 17 percent of children did not go to school due to financial constraints, while about 24 percent of children did not go to school because they did not want to. study. 21 percent of children do not go to school because their parents do not want them to study. At the same time, 13 percent of children were unable to go to school due to illness or disability.
When the last census was conducted in 2011, it was revealed that 78 million people in India were literate. But it was also revealed that of them, there are 40 million people who do not even know how to read and write their names correctly, that is, half of the literate population was literate only in name.
The National Sample Survey report reveals that only 81.6% of people over 15 years of age can read or write a simple sentence. This means that there are still more than 18% of the population who cannot read or write a single line correctly in everyday life. Among those who cannot read or write a single line correctly, 11.7 percent are men and more than 25 percent are women.
The situation is even worse in the villages. More than 22 percent of people living in the villages cannot read or write. While in urban areas the number of this type of people is around 10 percent. This is the situation when most of the schools are in rural areas. According to the Ministry of Education, there are 14.89 lakh schools across the country. Of them, 2.54 lakh schools are in cities and 12.34 lakh schools are in villages.
Another surprising statistic is that 2 out of 10 people don’t even know how to do simple addition and subtraction. According to the survey, only 81.2 percent of people know how to add and subtract. This means that about 19 percent of people don’t even know how to add and subtract. Of them, 12 percent are men and more than 25 percent are women. That means 1 in 4 Indian women cannot add or subtract.
There is a lot of difference in the figures between towns and cities. 1 in 4 people living in villages and 1 in 10 people living in cities cannot do simple addition and subtraction. More than 30 percent of women living in villages and 14 percent of those living in cities cannot do this.
This survey has also revealed that most Indians avoid studying science and technology. Only 34 percent of people over the age of 21 have graduated in science or technology. Women lag behind men when it comes to completing their science or technology studies. Only 29 percent of women and 37 percent of men have graduated from this course.
Not only this, currently there are more than 25 percent of youth in India who do not study, work, or receive any type of training. More than 44 percent of them are women.
During the three months prior to the survey, more than 43 percent of people had not used the Internet at all. This is the situation where almost everyone has access to the Internet.
