Nazir Ahmed Wani, the main accused in the 1993 Deoband blast case, has been arrested. The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested him from Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials gave this information on Tuesday, November 19. Wani is said to have been arrested by the UP Police team with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Vani’s arrest is a big success for the police.
In the recent assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir, Wani had contested against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Budgam assembly seat, although he was defeated in this election. According to the police officer, Nazir Ahmed Wani, 51, had mentioned his profession as business in his election affidavit. He did not mention the Deoband blast case in the affidavit, even though he was out on bail in the 1993 blast case.

Four people, including two police officers from Uttar Pradesh, were injured in the 1993 explosion. Nazir Ahmed Wani was arrested in 1993. In 1994 he was granted bail and released. However, after this he absconded without complying with bail conditions. Nazir Ahmed Wani is said to have been dodging everyone by changing his appearance for the last 31 years and living in different places. A case of undue coercion and criminal intimidation was also registered against Bani in Budgam district last year.

According to Saharanpur Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain, the accused Bani was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday in a joint action by Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Deoband police. He said that during the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992, there was communal violence in many places in Deoband. Meanwhile, in 1993, city police officers were attacked with bombs. After which Nazir Ahmed was arrested but later granted bail.
