Manipur burns once again. Curfew has been imposed in many areas following violence that broke out in the capital Imphal. In view of the tense situation, Internet service was cut off in seven districts. The angry mob set fire to the houses of three ministers and six MLAs. Cars and vehicles were set on fire and the accused were demanded to be arrested within 24 hours.

Giving information about this whole matter, Manipur Police said that the angry mob has attacked the houses and properties of public representatives including ministers and MPs of the state. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Army and Assam Rifles personnel have been deployed to beef up security in Imphal. The flag march was eliminated. Eight people were injured while trying to disperse the crowd. 23 people have been arrested for vandalizing homes and arson.

These people have been arrested from Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts. 32 pistols, 07 SBBL cartridges, 8 mobile phones have been recovered from them. A total curfew has been imposed in the city until further orders. Internet and mobile service has been suspended for 2 days. The SSP/CO has been deployed on the ground to manage the law and order situation. Senior officials are seriously monitoring the situation 24 hours a day.

How did violence break out in Imphal?

There was anger among the people after three bodies were found in the Jiri River. Angered by this, people went to the minister’s house but when they came to know that the minister was not in the state. Following this, angry people carried out incidents of vandalism and arson at the house. People demonstrated in Imphal to protest against the violence and demanded arrest of the accused within 24 hours. In view of the situation, curfew has been imposed in areas of Imphal. Internet was cut off in seven districts.
