A strange case has been observed in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. During the excavation of the field here, a cache of weapons, including swords and guns, was found. The district administration has taken possession of these weapons. Speaking to PTI, District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh on Friday said, “Farmer Baburam, a resident of Dhakiya Parvezpur in Nigohi police station area, was plowing his field recently. During this, he found something resembling a iron sword inside the ground. After this, when more excavations are carried out, many weapons buried underground come to light.
A cache of weapons found in the field during excavation.
He said that as the land was excavated, more weapons were found. During the excavation, a total of 23 swords, remains of 12 matchlock rifles, a spear and a dagger were recovered from the field. Let us tell you that only the pieces of rope and iron remain from the weapons that were recovered during the excavation. It is believed that because it was buried in the ground, termites could have eaten the wood of the weapon. However, due to the way the weapon is designed, it appears to be a matchlock rifle. The district magistrate further said that after this matter came to light, the concerned sub-district magistrate was sent to the spot along with the officers. Furthermore, the recovered weapons are kept in the warehouse of the Nigohi police station.
Relationship of weapons with the revolution of 1857
He said the district administration also wrote a letter to the Archeology Department in this regard. The weapons recovered after excavations in the field are believed to be from the year 1857, that is, from the time of the First War of Independence. According to Dr. Vikas Khurana, Chairman, Department of History, Swami Shukdevanand College, Shahjahanpur, looking at the weapons found in Dhakiya Parvezpur village, it seems that they belong to the Rohilla culture. There is a possibility that when the War of Independence took place in 1857, the British army pursued the defeated revolutionaries. During this time the revolutionaries fled into the forest. He said there is a possibility that at that very moment the revolutionaries had dug the ground and hidden their weapons. Because the army that wins the war does not hide its weapons.
