A minor girl jumped from a moving minibus in north Delhi after an altercation with the bus driver and another man. This incident took place in Nathpura area of Burari on Wednesday night. The girl had boarded the bus at Ibrahimpur Chowk and had an argument with the driver Deepak and another person named Manoj. Both Deepak and Manoj already knew each other. A police officer said that taking the opportunity, the girl jumped off the moving bus and ran.
Crowd gathered after rumor spread
Police said two witnesses suspected foul play and stopped the bus near Shalimar Chowk. After the rumor of sexual harassment spread, a crowd gathered there and beat up Manoj and Deepak, making the situation worse.
The police took action
Upon receiving the PCR call, the police immediately arrived at the scene and took the minor and the two men to the hospital for a medical examination. The girl recorded her statement, in which she denied the accusations of sexual assault, abuse or harassment. It was a relief to know that the medical examination also confirmed his statement.
Based on the girl’s statement, police registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Justice Code at Burari police station. The officer said further investigation is underway into the matter. (with language inputs)
