A hearing was held again today in the Supreme Court on the serious level of pollution in Delhi-NCR. The Supreme Court asked the Air Quality Management Committee to immediately decide whether schools will open or not. The Supreme Court will decide in the next hearing whether or not to relax the provisions of GRAP-4. The next hearing will be on Thursday, November 28.
Apart from this, the Supreme Court asked the Delhi Police why check posts were set up at only 23 places. We will direct the CAQM Commission to prosecute the Delhi Police Commissioner under Section 14. The court said we will direct the CAQM to issue show cause notices to all agencies, seek their responses and prosecute them.
The court said the Delhi government did not properly follow the GRAP-4 guidelines between November 18 and 23. No adequate measures were taken to stop the trucks from reaching Delhi.
ASG Aishwarya Bhati said that according to yesterday’s AQI we were in GRAP 2 stage, but till today the AQI is around 324. Aishwarya Bhati told the court that the ban on physical classes in schools continues. In NCR, all physical classes have been suspended in Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
The Supreme Court said our suggestion is to observe the AQI level for the next two days. Bring the data the day after tomorrow and then we will see what the trend has been in the last two days. A decision will be taken later on the matter related to the opening of educational institutions.
