Currently, the modernization and localization work of the country’s army continues. In such a situation, Tata Group and Baba Kalyani’s Bharat Forge Group may soon start manufacturing a ‘desi weapon’. This weapon has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) itself for the army. Both groups can get the job of doing it.

Actually, DRDO has developed Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for the Indian Army. Bharat Forge has made the lowest bid for its manufacturing. In such a situation, now the company can close the deal for this order. Tata Advanced Systems Limited is also participating in this race and hence can also get a share of the order.

‘Indigenous weapons’ to be manufactured for Rs 7,000 million

According to a news report by ET, the order to manufacture these indigenous weapons developed by DRDO could be divided into two parts. In this, 60 per cent of the order may be given to Bharat Forge and 40 per cent to Tata Advanced Systems Limited. Both companies have the technology and facilities to manufacture weapons.

Sources say that bids for the order to manufacture 307 such weapon systems were submitted only last week. This order is worth around Rs 7,000 crore. According to the information revealed so far, Bharat Forge has made the lowest offer. While Tata Advanced Limited will get 40 per cent of the orders only if it matches its competitor’s price.

It operates at an altitude of 13,000 feet.

The tests that the Army has done so far with these ‘desi gunsystems’. It was found that even with its battery backup, it could successfully drill to an altitude of 13,000 feet. It is capable of operating even at very low temperatures. The Indian Army initially needs 400 such weapon systems. This order may increase in the future because it may replace old weapons in the army.

L&T was also in the race to get the order to manufacture this weapon system. It has also supplied K9 Vajra self-propelled artillery to the Indian Army.
