Protesters protesting against the court-ordered poll being conducted at Sambhal’s Jama Masjid clashed with police on Sunday during which three people died. 20 people including SDM were also injured in this incident. Officials said that after the riot in Sambhal, entry of outsiders, social organizations and public representatives was banned until December 1. In view of the delicate situation, the administration has taken this step.

Officials said that in view of the tension following the violence, internet services have been suspended in Sambhal tehsil. Also, orders have been given to keep all schools closed till class 12 today.

The criminals opened fire

According to the police, the protesters tried to burn vehicles and pelted stones at the police, following which the police fired tear gas and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. An officer said that the miscreants opened fire and some shrapnel hit our police officers. We are investigating where the bullets were fired, especially in the Deepa Sarai area.

In fact, on the orders of a local court, a poll was conducted at Jama Masjid last Tuesday, following which there has been tension in Sambhal for the last few days. A petition has been filed in the court alleging that at the place where Jama Masjid is located, there was earlier a Harihar temple.

Moradabad divisional commissioner Anjaneya Singh said in Sambhal that in this case there were two or three groups of miscreants who were firing continuously. The police administration safely eliminated the team that had come to conduct the survey. Anjaneya Singh said three people aged between 20 and 25 were killed in this violence. The deceased have been identified as Naeem, a resident of Mohalla Kot Garvi, Bilal, a resident of Sarayatrin and Noman, a resident of Hayatnagar.

20 people, including SDM, injured

The divisional commissioner said that a total of 20 people have been injured in these acts of violence, shooting and stone-pelting. In the incident, Superintendent of Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sanjeev Kumar was shot in the leg, while SDM Ramesh Chandra had his leg broken. Apart from this, Sambhal police officer Anuj Kumar was also hit by shrapnel.

Throwing and shooting heavy stones

District magistrate Rajendra Pesiya said there was no stone-pelting during the first two hours of the survey. Later it was announced from the mosque that the inspection work had been completed. After which a large number of people living in the nearby area reached the spot and started pelting each other with heavy stones and shooting. He said anyone who incites the mob and conspires to commit violence will not be spared.
