New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday raised his voice on the Bangladesh issue and said that attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh prove that the country’s interim government is in the “clutches of fundamentalists”. He asked the United Nations to intervene in this matter. Condemning the arrest of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh, he said such attacks are against humanity. The BJP, however, refrained from commenting on the matter and said it stood by the “appropriate stand” taken by the Ministry of External Affairs on the issue.
Call to ensure the safety of minorities
India on Tuesday expressed “deep concern” over Das’ arrest in Bangladesh and denial of his bail and appealed to Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities. When asked to comment on the issue, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference held at the party headquarters here: “We agree with the Indian government’s stand.” Bangladesh police arrested the leader of the Hindu group Samilit Sanatani Jot. Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was arrested on Monday from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area.
United Nations should intervene
Singh told reporters at the Parliament complex: “Bangladesh’s caretaker ‘Prime Minister’ is in the clutches of fundamentalists. The way Hindus are being attacked is against humanity. The United Nations should intervene in this matter.” ”Bangladesh’s interim government is headed by senior advisor Mohammad Yunus. Singh said attacking Hindus and arresting religious leaders shows that, like Pakistan, fundamentalists are dominating Bangladesh’s interim government.
Laws enacted to stop religious conversion
The minister was asked about the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh and the current situation there. Singh also attacked the opposition and said he is raising the issue of violence cautiously but is not concerned about the problems faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. He said, “People talk about being careful, but Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav do not see Bangladesh, where atrocities are being committed against Hindus. All Hindus should protest against the atrocities taking place in Bangladesh.” He also highlighted the need to a law to stop conversion in India.
TMC also condemned the incident in Bangladesh
He said, “The law enacted in Assam on religious conversion should be welcomed. There should be similar laws against religious conversion in all states. Incidents of conversion are increasing in the country and this is unfortunate. Democracy is only safe as long as the majority is ‘sanatani’. Several other MPs also condemned the attack on minorities in Bangladesh and called for government intervention. Trinamool Congress leader and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee said, “This is not a state issue but a Centre-related matter.” The people have given their mandate to the central government. As a party, the Trinamool Congress has decided to support the Centre’s decision. All I can say is that what has happened in Bangladesh is extremely unfortunate.” Saugata Roy, another Trinamool Congress MP, also condemned the incident and said it is a matter of concern that Hindus are being subjected to atrocities. He said, “This shouldn’t happen.” I condemn it. The government should intervene in this matter.” (Language)
