Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Galant on Tuesday. Netanyahu’s reasoning behind this move was that a “crisis of confidence” had gradually emerged between him and Gallant and because of this there were difficulties in managing the war against Hamas and Hezbollah.

“In the midst of war, more than ever, there is a need for complete trust between the prime minister and the defense minister,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. There was this trust between the two in the early days of the Israeli military campaign in Gaza and Lebanon and a very good job was done, but in the last few months that trust is gone.
Netanyahu said he has appointed Foreign Minister Israel Katz as the new defense minister, who has already demonstrated his capabilities and contribution to national security. At the same time, Gideon Sa’ar has been appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, following his dismissal from the position of Minister of Defense, Yoav Galant wrote in a post on the social media platform.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said he did everything he could to resolve the differences between him and Gallant, but instead of diminishing, they continued to escalate. He said: ‘The differences and disagreements between us became public in an unusual way. Worse still, our enemies knew this and took extensive advantage of it. Therefore, I have decided to dismiss the Minister of Defense and appoint Israel Katz in his place.
