There may be tough competition between the two Shiv Sena factions in the Thane seat of the Bhiwandi Rural Assembly. There is a contest for this seat between Shiv Sena’s Shantaram More (Shivde faction) and Shiv Sena’s Mahadev Ghatal (Uddhav faction). The contest between the two factions of Shiv Sena is interesting because after the party split, the Shinde faction and the Uddhav faction formed an alliance with the Congress along with the BJP.
Because of this, new equations are emerging in the politics of the region. While the Shinde faction has tried to strengthen its position with the support of the BJP, the Uddhav faction has entered the electoral fray in alliance with the Congress. The electoral battle this time in Bhiwandi may prove decisive not only between the two factions of the Shiv Sena but also between the political alliances. However, now the results will decide who the public chooses as their representative.
2019 assembly elections
In 2019, Shiv Sena’s Shantaram More again recorded victory. He got 83,567 votes, while Shubhangi Ramesh Gowari of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) came second with 39,058 votes. This victory was decisive for the Shiv Sena, which not only demonstrated the regional stability of the party but also did not give any opportunity to other parties to challenge it in the region.
2014 assembly elections
In the 2014 elections, Shiv Sena’s Shantaram More won this seat. He received 57,082 votes, defeating Shantaram Sundaram Patil of the BJP. At that time, despite the tension between BJP and Shiv Sena, this victory was considered important for Shiv Sena. This strengthened the party’s control in the region and showed that Shiv Sena’s popularity remains intact at the regional level.

The Bhiwandi Rural Assembly constituency was formed after delimitation in 2008. Elections were held for the first time in this area in 2009, in which Vishnu Savara of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious. This headquarters was formed by merging parts of the Wada constituency and the area has since been considered politically important.
