Washington: Outgoing President Joe Biden suffered a major setback when Kamala Harris lost the election. A judge appointed by newly elected President Donald Trump struck down Biden’s immigration policy. We told you that in this Biden immigration policy, there was a demand to help the spouses of undocumented American citizens. But the judge has declared the undocumented immigration policy illegal for spouses of US citizens. This is the first biggest shock Biden faced after Trump was elected president.

Many priorities changed dramatically when a federal judge on Thursday struck down the validity of the Biden administration’s “in situ parole” policy. The immigration program provided legal status to spouses of U.S. citizens who were undocumented. But after Donald Trump won the presidential election, U.S. District Court Judge J. Campbell Barker overturned Biden’s policy in his decision. This decision by the judge has occurred after the projected victory of the newly elected President Donald Trump in the 2024 US elections. This signals the return of the Republican leader to the White House.

What was Biden’s policy?

Let us tell you that in an effort to promote family unity among mixed-status families, the Biden administration had announced a policy of keeping such families together earlier this year. However, the results of Trump’s coming to power have already shown a major defeat for Biden’s gloomy mandate. Barker’s latest move as President-elect Trump’s appointee during his first term dismantles a policy Biden pushed during his initial re-election campaign. This law would have protected some undocumented married couples of U.S. citizens from deportation. The program also allowed them to work legally in the United States as they moved toward citizenship. This would have reserved space for people who had lived in the country for 10 years without committing serious crimes. Additionally, the policy’s anti-deportation protections would have been extended to undocumented stepchildren of U.S. citizens.

The decision will affect around 7-8 lakh people.

According to a CNN report, previous estimates indicate that the cancellation of this program by the Biden administration could affect the spouses of at least 750,000 to 800,000 US citizens. However, Trump has also separately promised to seal and militarize the US-Mexico border, which would trigger the largest mass deportation in the country’s history. It is no surprise that the safeguards put in place by the Keeping Families Together policy have already been dismantled.
