While speaking to reporters along with Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, CM Atishi said that the issue of permanent appointment of bus marshals is up to the Central Government in the Services section, until the Central Government adopts a policy, the Government of Delhi will not appoint ten thousand sheriffs. for buses. With the Delhi government’s decision, youth from poor families will get jobs and women will be able to feel safe on buses again.
Important steps regarding women’s safety
CM Atishi said that since the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed in Delhi in 2015 and Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi, the elected government of Delhi has taken many steps regarding women’s safety. Be it the installation of CCTV cameras in the city or the appointment of marshals on buses. Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government continued to work for women’s safety.
She said women in Delhi know very well how difficult it is for them to travel in DTC buses. To ensure that women do not misbehave, police officers have been deployed on DTC buses. Since 2015, marshals have been posted on DTC buses in two shifts for the safety of women, senior citizens and children. But starting in 2023, efforts were made to derail this Bus Marshall plan.
Women are not safe due to lack of marshal
First, the salaries of bus marshals were suspended from April 2023 and then from October 2023, all bus marshals were removed from their jobs. At the same time, Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the proposal for reinstatement of bus commissioners was passed unanimously in the Delhi Assembly and on October 3, all MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP will move to LG Saheb . The entire Delhi cabinet will be handed over to LG Saheb. Saurabh Bhardwaj said the proposal was not approved until November 5.
