Chandīgarh: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has resigned from the post of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president. This development comes amid growing challenges for the party. After the crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, discontent began to rise in the party against Sukhbir. A faction of the party had openly launched a front against Badal. However, the opponents were later shown the way out of the party.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Saturday said party president Sukhbir Singh Badal today tendered his resignation from the party’s working committee to pave the way for the election of a new president. He thanked all party leaders and workers for trusting in his leadership and providing him unconditional support and cooperation throughout his tenure.
Akali Dal working committee president called emergency meeting
Daljit Singh Cheema said Shiromani Akali Dal Working Committee president S Balwinder S Bhundar has called an emergency meeting of the party working committee on November 18 at 12 noon at the party headquarters office in Chandigarh. . The committee will consider the resignation tendered by Sukhbir Singh Badal and decide further action.
