Bihar model for CM… Why can’t this BJP formula work in Maharashtra?

Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis

After registering a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, there is a buzz in Mahayuti regarding the Chief Minister. The contest is between Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde. Only time will tell who wins. But before that, leaders on both sides have different demands. Maharashtra BJP leaders are demanding that Fadnavis be the CM, while Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leaders are appealing for Eknath Shinde to be given the helm of the state. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske also recommended adopting the Bihar model in the state. He said that just as BJP made Nitish Kumar CM in Bihar, similarly it should make Shinde CM in Maharashtra. However, the BJP does not agree with group leader Shinde.

Why can’t the Bihar model be implemented?

BJP spokesperson Prem Shukla said the Bihar model cannot be implemented in Maharashtra. Even before the Bihar elections, the BJP had talked about appointing Nitish Kumar as CM and later also gave him that honour. We had not made any such promise in Maharashtra, because our base and leadership are strong here.

He said we had not made any promise that Shinde would become CM after the elections. During the election campaign, party leaders insisted that the CM’s decision would be taken only after the results. This statement by Prem Shukla came after the resignation of Eknath Shinde from the post of CM. However, the Governor has appointed him as acting CM.

Talking about the assembly election results, the BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena won 57 seats and the NCP won 41 seats. He has returned to power. Mahavikas Aghadi will have to wait once again to come to power.

Shinde tried to cool the atmosphere.

On Monday, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded that the Bihar pattern for the Chief Minister’s post be implemented and that Eknath Shinde be made CM again. However, BJP wants to make Fadnavis CM. The party leader stated that with a mandate of 132 seats, there is no possibility of the CM leaving office. The party has had to pay the price for this once.

Amid the statements issued by both parties, Shinde tried to cool the atmosphere. In a post on social media platform X, he attempted to calm the controversy over CM’s post.

He said that after Mahayuti’s victory, our government will be formed again in the state. We fought the elections together as Mahayuti and we are together even today. Out of their love for me, some people have appealed to everyone to gather in Mumbai. I am very grateful for your love. But I appeal that no one join my support in this way.

Echoing Shinde, senior army leader Deepak Kesarkar said that any decision taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be acceptable to all.

Ramdas Athawale raised his voice for Fadnavis

Meanwhile, Union minister and NDA ally Republican Party of India (A) chief Ramdas Athawale advised Shinde to allow Fadnavis to take over the role of CM. Athawale said Eknath Shinde and his party feel that they should be given another chance and the Bihar pattern should be implemented in Maharashtra. But the situation is different in Maharashtra and Bihar. The pattern cannot be implemented.

He said: I think he (Shinde) should be part of the state government and become Deputy Chief Minister. If you don’t want to become a Deputy Chief Minister, you can become a Union Minister in Delhi.

Why is there a delay?

There is a delay in knowing who will be the face of the Chief Minister, so somewhere this delay is being caused by the BJP. In fact, Shiv Sena has chosen the leader of its legislative party. The leader of the legislative party has been chosen by the NCP party, while the leader of the legislative party is yet to be chosen from the Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs. Experts also say that the Bharatiya Janata Party is considering a few names for the post of Chief Minister other than Devendra Fadnavis and the final name is yet to be finalised, due to which the entire process is getting delayed.
