BJP leaders and workers on Thursday protested against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and sought answers over the use of “excessive luxury items” in the renovation of a government bungalow when he was Delhi Chief Minister. The ruling AAP responded by saying that the BJP was creating drama due to the fear of losing the elections in Delhi. The party said, “BJP’s real agenda is to end the free power scheme and hand over the power plants to Adani, who will then charge consumers four times higher prices, as seen in BJP-ruled states.”
BJP leaders protested
Several protesters, including Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, gathered near Kejriwal’s current residence on Feroze Shah Road and were detained when they tried to move forward after removing the police barricade. Police said the detained BJP leaders and workers were later released. Addressing the protesters, Sachdeva alleged that the PWD did not provide the luxurious ‘sanitary’ fixtures and washbasins installed in the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road and Kejriwal should tell from where he got them. BJP MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Manoj Tiwari, Yogendra Chandolia and Kamaljit Sehrawat, leader of opposition in the Assembly Vijender Gupta and former Delhi minister Kailash Gehlot participated in the protest.
There has been corruption in the construction of Sheeshmahal – Kailash Gehlot
Kailash Gehlot, who left the AAP and joined the BJP earlier this week, said in a statement issued by the party: “It has now become clear that there has been corruption in the construction of Sheesh Mahal. Even the workers are being discussed of AAP and Kejriwal I have to respond.” Describing the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road as a ‘sheeshmahal’, BJP leaders claimed that the PWD did not provide the extremely expensive items found there.
AAP issued statement
The Aam Aadmi Party issued a statement saying that the BJP has adopted many tactics to tarnish the image of honest Arvind Kejriwal. “The BJP also fabricated false cases against him, but till date no agency has detected even a single rupee of irregularities against the AAP or any of its leaders,” the party said. The AAP said, “Innumerable allegations have been made against the AAP and its leaders, but no one has faced a judicial inquiry and the BJP should answer why it is saving Adani.”
Kejriwal had vacated the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road after resigning from the post of Delhi Chief Minister in October this year. The BJP alleged irregularities in the reconstruction of the bungalow and claimed that excessively expensive domestic materials were used. (with language inputs)
