Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party is losing political ground in the state. In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP achieved a surprise victory by winning 36 seats in the 60-member assembly. and obtained 51 percent of the votes. “People are finding it increasingly difficult to live”

Addressing a CPI(M) rally in Udaipur in Gamati district, Sarkar said: “The BJP got only 39 per cent votes in the 2023 assembly elections, which is much less than the 51 per cent cent in 2018. This shows that he is not living up to the expectations and trust of the people because he has not fulfilled his promises The social and economic condition of the state has completely deteriorated in the last seven years of BJP rule. People are finding it increasingly difficult to cover their expenses or survive.

‘Agitate against government failures’

Contrary to the Left leader’s claims, BJP general secretary Amit Rakshit said the party has strengthened its position in the state and achieved an unprecedented victory in the Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections. He said, “The BJP has not only registered a huge victory in the Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections but has also added around 12 lakh members in the ongoing membership drive.”
