Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arjun Singh on Thursday claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched to assassinate him. He alleged that since he was part of the opposition party, this conspiracy was politically motivated. Arjun Singh said this after appearing before the CID in connection with alleged irregularities in the awarding of a tender during his tenure as president of Bhatpara Municipality in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in 2020.
“I am being defamed and a conspiracy is being hatched to kill me,” he told reporters. The Trinamool Congress dismissed the allegations as baseless and party leaders claimed that Singh was “mentally bankrupt”.
Arjun Singh joined BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections
Arjun Singh joined the Trinamool Congress from the BJP after the 2021 assembly elections. He returned to the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He denied any wrongdoing during his tenure as Bhatpara municipality president. After leaving the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan, Singh said, “I was the first chairman of a municipal corporation in the state to start e-tendering in Bhatpara. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee knows very well that there were no irregularities during my tenure.
Shubhendu Adhikari is also in danger – Arjun
The BJP leader alleged that the administration was hatching a conspiracy to harm him and opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari. “We are under the protection of the central security forces, so they cannot physically harm us in public,” Singh alleged. However, I have reliable information that I may be slowly poisoned during interrogation.” The former MP said: “I don’t know for sure, but I have received warnings from some reliable sources.”
Government responsible for my death- Arjun Singh
Arjun Singh claimed that if he dies due to malfunction of his organs in the next six months, the state government will be responsible. Singh said if anything happens to me, the state government will be held accountable. Singh also said that he is fully willing to cooperate with the CID. Trinamool reacted sharply to Singh’s allegations. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh rejected Singh’s claims as “ridiculous”. Ghosh said: “Singh is making absurd allegations of poisoning with chemicals imported from Russia. This is ridiculous. Arjun is nervous after receiving the CID summons. (PTI input-language)
