Ship sunk in the Red Sea

Cairo: At least 16 people are missing after a tourist boat capsizes in the Red Sea. Egyptian officials have given information in this regard. Amr Hanafi, governor of the Red Sea region, said rescuers rescued 28 people from boats south of the coastal city of Marsa Alam and some were airlifted for treatment. According to information provided by the Red Sea Governorate on Facebook, Hanafi visited the site where the ship sank.

People from many countries were traveling on board the ship.

Hanafi said there were a total of 44 people on board the ship, including 13 Egyptians and crew members. On board the ship were 31 foreign citizens from the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, China, Slovakia, Spain and Ireland.

The ship was hit by a large wave.

According to officials, the ship named ‘Sea Story’ had no technical problems and had obtained all necessary permits before the voyage. It was last examined in March in relation to boating safety. Initial reports based on statements from the ship’s crew and tourists said that a large wave hit the ship, causing it to capsize. This ship had left Marsa Alam on a five-day journey.
