Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has intensified the campaign to promote sports and encourage players in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that the state government is fully committed to the all-round development of sports and players. The Bihar government had announced in 2010 itself that it would provide employment to players who win medals in sports competitions. According to the information, under this policy in Bihar, a total of 271 players, including 33 players in the year 2010, 125 players in the year 2011, 82 players in the year 2015 and 31 players in the year 2020, were given administrative jobs.
To increase the interest of youth in sports in the state, the state government has prepared the Bihar Direct Appointment Rules 2023 of excellent players with the motto “Bring Medal, Get Job”. A provision has been made to appoint excellent players who have won national and international medals in various sports competitions in government departments. Under the Bring Medal-Get Job programme, in the year 2023-24, 71 prominent players were given direct appointment letters to class one government jobs in various government departments without examination or interview. Thus, jobs have been hired for 342 players in Bihar so far.
Labor arrangements were made even during the time of the Railway Minister.
When Nitish Kumar was Railway Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, he had made arrangements to provide employment to Railway players. Under this system, hundreds of players from all over the country have so far got jobs in Railways. The enthusiasm of the players increased after they got jobs in Railways. In the line of giving jobs to players in railways, from the year 2010, Nitish Kumar also started giving government jobs to players who performed excellently in Bihar.
Opportunity to become an SDO and DSP
With an aim to increase the interest of youth in sports in the state, the Bihar Direct Appointment Rules 2023 of excellent sportspersons under the Bring Medal, Get Job line of the state government have also been prepared. Under this, players who win medals in national and international sports competitions will be directly employed. Under this new rule, players will have a chance to become SDO and DSP if they perform well. As per this rule, 71 players have been given jobs recently, of which two have been given the job of officers, which include Child Development Project Officer and Panchayati Raj Block Officer. 69 have been given the posts of police sub-inspector, social welfare department superintendent and data entry operator and secretary.
Sports are being promoted in Bihar. To this end, sports facilities are being developed at all levels so that children can study as well as play. Block-level stadiums are being built in the state, where the construction work of about 250 stadiums has been completed so far. Players are being sent out of state for better training.
