Local resident Ashu Awasthi said that after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, the part between the two pillars of the bridge fell into the Ganges River. Local residents claim that this bridge was built in 1874 by Avadh and Rohilkhand Railway Limited Company. Local resident Panda Raju said the bridge was closed to traffic in 2021 after cracks appeared. Locals said that deep cracks were found on bridge numbers 2, 10, 17 and 22 on the Kanpur side, so the administration completely closed this bridge on April 5, 2021 for safety reasons. While the bridge was closed, it was sealed by building walls on both sides of the bridge.
