People often occupy land illegally and then resort to the courts to avoid administrative action and then intimidate the administration and local population by threatening them with court orders. But when the hammer of the court falls, everything becomes clear and something similar was seen in Ghazipur municipality. When, on the instructions of the High Court, they started hammering a house over the past few days, a drain that had been missing for the last 22 years was found under the same house. Not only this, many shops were also built in the drain under the cover of that house.
Sumitra Devi, wife of Manikchand Verma, who built her house in the year 2002 in Jhandatar locality of Ghazipur municipal area and during this time, occupying the big drain of the municipality that flows next to the house, also built a house in he. At that time the local population protested, despite this they managed to build their entire house. Everything was fine till the year 2017. But after that, the drainage flow started gradually decreasing and waterlogging situation started forming. The local population began to protest once again. The owner Manikchand Verma took the help of the High Court to cover up his illegal act and wanted to point out that the municipal drain does not pass under his house.
In the year 2019, the High Court had given a week’s time to the municipality and Manikchand Verma to investigate it. But the municipality ignored this instruction from the High Court at that time. Behind which it is said that administrative and political apathy were the main reasons for this. Whenever there was any protest, Manikchand Verma used to mislead the officials by informing them about the suspension order of the High Court.
People were worried about waterlogging
But once again, when the rainy season begins in 2024, this time a severe waterlogging situation began. The situation worsened when people’s houses also started flooding. Many people became ill and two or three people died during this period. People appealed to many officials, including municipal officials, SDMs and district magistrates, for relief from this waterlogging. But no one listened to his plea. These people then sought help from the High Court and filed a PIL.
The court requested a response to the notice
During the hearing of the PIL, the High Court asked the municipality to report on compliance with the directions of 2019. The municipality came to its senses and felt that they should now look for that drain and since then the municipality continued to give notice after notice. Finally, after the Diwali holidays, the hammering work was completed. The hammering continued for several days but the drain was not found. On the third day, when the workers broke the floor on the ground floor, people could see the drainage that had been missing in the municipality for 22 years. After which both local people and officials breathed a sigh of relief.

Now the drainage that was missing for 22 years has started to become visible to people. In the next few days a big problem is going to arise regarding its cleanliness. Because there is a mosque some distance ahead in this drain and 5-6 shops have been built near this mosque in the drain. In such a situation, the possibility of such shops collapsing during drain cleaning has increased.
