Why did the CCI impose such a high fine?
Nowadays, you will see Mark Zuckerberg’s WhatsApp app on every mobile phone, laptop, and tablet. Its usage has increased rapidly, but now this platform has come as a shock to the company’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg. In fact, due to allegations of misuse of privacy policy related to it, CCI in India has imposed a fine of Rs 213.14 crore on Meta, the parent company of Whatsapp. This penalty was imposed for engaging in unfair business practices in connection with the 2021 Privacy Policy Update.
