UP assembly by-elections
The Election Commission on Monday changed the dates of by-elections to be held in three states, including Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, the vote was to be held on November 13, but following the request of many major parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Commission changed the dates of the vote. Now the vote will be held here on November 20. The counting of votes will take place on November 23.
Due to various festivals, by-election voting for many assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab will now be held on November 20 instead of November 13. The Commission has changed the dates on the request of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and many other parties at the national and state levels. Political parties feared that, due to the holidays, participation would be lower in the November 13 elections.
