Chhath Puja is an important festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm especially in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to Drik Panchang, the festival of Chhath Puja is celebrated in the Shashti Tithi month of Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month. This year 2024, Shashthi Tithi will start at 0:41 am on Thursday, November 7 and will end at 00:34 am on Friday, November 8.

According to Udaya Tithi, the Chhath Puja festival will be celebrated only on Thursday, November 7. To complete Chhath Puja, Evening Arghya will be offered on November 7 and Morning Arghya on November 8. After this the fast will be broken.

  • Second day of Chhath Puja, November 6, 2024- Kharna
  • Third day of Chhath Puja, November 7, 2024 – Arghya Evening

Nirjala fast lasts 36 hours.

In Hindu religion, in Chhath Puja, Chhathi Maiya and Sun God are worshiped with rituals. Chhath festival is celebrated six days after Diwali. Chhath Puja lasts for four days, starting with Nahay-Khay and Kharna. Arghya is then offered to the setting and rising Sun God. In this, fasting women immerse themselves in waist-deep river water and offer Arghya to the Sun God and worship him. In this, fasting without water for 36 hours is observed, which is considered very difficult. According to mythological beliefs, by worshiping Chhathi Maiya, the devotee obtains the blessings of health, happiness, prosperity and children’s happiness.

When does Nirjala start quickly?

The process of Nahay Khay for Chhath Puja will begin on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartik i.e. 5th November while Kharna should be performed on the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartik i.e. November 6. After observing Nirjala fast throughout the day, fasting women worship Chhathi Maiya at night. Prasad accepts. After this, fasting without water for approximately 36 hours begins.
