The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a key accused in the murder and robbery case of 63-year-old doctor Dr Yogesh Chandra Paul. Dr Paul was found dead at his home in Jangpura Extension in May. The accused had used eight mobile phones and 20 SIM cards to mislead the police.
The accused, identified as Vishnuswaroop Shahi, was arrested at the India-Nepal border on November 2 after a police team chased him for 1,600 kilometres. The accused constantly changed locations and had changed his name six times.
During this time, the accused also made many fake documents and the police found documents in the names of Vishnu, Shakti Sai, Satya Sai, Surya Prakash, Gagan Oli and Krishna. He was believed to be the mastermind of the Dr. Pal murder case; Along with his four other associates, he managed to escape by hiding from the police for several months.

This is how they captured the accused
In their efforts to catch Shahi, investigators analyzed phone records and found that he had changed around eight phones and more than 20 SIM cards to avoid detection. After surveillance, the police reached Suket Valley in Himachal Pradesh, but by the time the team reached there, Shahi had fled from there.
From here he fled to Dehradun. Shahi was last seen boarding a bus heading towards the border with Nepal. After a continuous chase, the Crime Branch team nabbed him at Banbasa, bordering Nepal, on the morning of November 2.
How did the defendant plan the robbery?
During interrogation, Shahi revealed that Dr. Basanti’s maid had told him about the valuable cash and jewelery in his house. Shahi and his partner Bhim Jora, along with Jora’s wife, allegedly planned and executed the robbery after obtaining information about the property.
The robbery turned violent and Dr. Paul was murdered. After this, Shahi and his gang fled to Nepal and divided the looted money and jewelery between them. Shahi reportedly got Rs 40,000 and 13 grams of gold from the loot.

Shahi Crime Horoscope
Shahi, a resident of Kalikot, Nepal, has carried out many criminal activities in India. He was first arrested under the NDPS Act in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, in 2018 and 2020, on charges of drug trafficking. Even after being granted bail, he failed to appear in court and was later declared a fugitive.
He has reportedly used multiple false identities and IDs to evade investigating agencies. At the time of his arrest, police recovered four mobile phones and several fake identity cards with names other than Shahi’s.
Shahi, who has studied only up to fifth class. He used maids as informants and then identified targets with valuable assets and attacked them. Police are investigating possible links to other crimes in the area.

Dr. Pal was murdered in May
Let us tell you that in May this year, 63-year-old Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul was murdered in Jangpura, a posh area of Delhi. Dr Yogesh’s body was found in the kitchen of his house in C Block of Jangpura. The deceased was a general practitioner by profession and lived with his wife Dr Neena Paul, a doctor in a government hospital in Delhi. During this time, Dr. Paul’s pet dog was locked in the room. This incident took place on Friday afternoon.
