Pollution increased in Delhi.
The air quality in Delhi worsened on Saturday. Many areas of the capital even reached the “serious category.” Authorities intensified their action by imposing a fine of around Rs 5.85 million on the first day of pollution control measures under the third phase of the Phased Response Action Plan (GRAP).
According to the information, the AQI of the national capital Delhi reached 417 on Saturday. On Friday it was 396. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in the severe category poses a threat to the healthy people and has a serious impact on people with existing health problems.
Strict measures against those who violate the rules
According to data shared by CPCB, of the 39 monitoring stations in Delhi, the air quality was in the “severe category” at all places except Sri Aurobindo Marg, where the AQI level was above 400. After On Friday the restrictions of the third phase of the GRAP came into force, the authorities have intensified measures against those who violate the rules. The traffic police, transport department and other outfits have also been punishing those who violate the rules.
Fine of more than one crore rupees
The Delhi Traffic Police on Friday issued around 550 challans for violation of ban on movement of BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles. In which a fine of over Rs 1 million was imposed on the first day of sanctions under the third phase of GRAP.
Environment Minister accused BJP
During inspection of buses at Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminal on Saturday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai alleged that neighboring BJP-ruled states were increasing air pollution in the capital by sending BS diesel buses -4 despite the ban. Gopal Rai, pointing to states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, said BJP governments are deliberately sending diesel-run buses in Delhi, which are banned under current guidelines, which is worsening air pollution.
As part of efforts to combat pollution, Gopal Rai announced that a total of 84 enforcement teams of transport department and 280 teams of traffic police have been deployed to ensure strict compliance with the ban.
