The BJP has been out of power in Delhi since 1998. Now the party is putting all its strength into action for the assembly elections to be held in February next year.
Three possible candidates decided for each seat
On the other hand, party workers and leaders come to the BJP office in Delhi every day with their personal details in the hope of getting a ticket for the assembly elections. A senior Delhi BJP leader said the party has prepared a list of three possible candidates for each seat in the 70 assembly constituencies. Now the top national leaders of the party will take the final decision on the party candidates from this list.
He said many BJP meetings have been held regarding the elections. At these meetings, party leaders had demanded that the names of the election candidates be announced soon, so that the candidates could have more time to campaign. Given this, the party has accelerated the process of selecting candidates for the elections.
In September, a two-day brainstorming meeting of the expanded central committee of the Delhi BJP was held in Ranthambore, Rajasthan. Top party leaders including BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh were present in this meeting. At this meeting, the demand was raised to decide the names of the candidates soon.
They demand to declare a candidate soon
In the meeting, some leaders had claimed that early distribution of tickets and selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections held in Delhi on May 25 was beneficial for the party. In these elections, the party had won all seven seats in Delhi.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party has so far maintained its dominance in Delhi in the recent assembly elections. The BJP had a chance to win only three seats in the year 2015 and eight seats in the 2020 assembly elections.
However, this time BJP leaders say the AAP has lost its credibility. The Aam Aadmi Party’s image has been tarnished due to issues such as allegations of corruption, poor conditions of water supply, roads and public transport and pollution.
