Actress Taapsee Pannu has done many women-centric films throughout her career. She makes each role her own with her brilliant performance. That is why she is counted among the talented actresses of Bollywood. Taapsee opened up on the set of Sahitya Aaj Tak 2024 about how doing women-centric films has hurt her.
What does Taapsee regret?
When the actress was appreciated for the fact that she has appeared in many women-centric films. In response, Taapsee said: To tell the truth, I don’t have any other option. Now this has become a problem. My agents tell me that people don’t want to come to you with big hero movies. Because they think she won’t.
Sometimes there is so much pressure to make the film work that I like to stay in the background. I will do my job well, but the pressure of the film will not fall on me. Referring to the film Dunky with Shahrukh Khan, Taapsee said: I was relieved at the time of its release. I didn’t feel his pressure. You have Rajkumar Hirani, Shahrukh Khan, who were taking it forward. I had taken the back seat. My role was good but there was no pressure. After a while, I also feel like watching movies like that.
What did Taapsee say praising Shahrukh?
There are very few people whose on-screen personality is that of a star. But off-screen his knowledge, his presence, his way of speaking… he is a star. Shahrukh’s knowledge about things, the way he can talk in depth about any topic, there are very few people who can have such a deep conversation with you. This is not achieved with studies, but with general knowledge, presence of mind, and a good sense of humor. It’s all in them. I haven’t seen such a personality anywhere else in the film industry.
Women-Centric Movies Don’t Get Big Budgets
Taapsee complained that women-centric films don’t make money. The filmmakers want a big movie to be made on a commercial scale. Like hero films are made on a large scale, but it costs money. Movies based on women don’t get that kind of money. That’s why things are complicated. Such people are very lucky when producers are willing to invest money in films without any big heroes.
