violence in manipur
MPs from Manipur and Mizoram clashed against each other to end the caste conflict in Manipur. The matter escalated so much that the Manipur MP even asked not to cross the line. In reality, what happened was that Mizoram MP K. Vanlalvena advocated for a separate administration to end the ongoing caste conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur. Manipur MPs were angered by this.
Manipur Rajya Sabha MP Lishemba Sanajaoba said they (Mizoram MPs) should not cross the line and stop interfering. Sanajaoba tweeted and said: My friend, don’t cross the line… stay limited to state issues. Stop interfering in the affairs of Manipur and be a good neighbor. Mizo National Front (MNF) leader Vanlalvena demanded immediate dismissal of the Biren government.
More than 250 deaths in Manipur since May
Furthermore, he demanded the imposition of presidential power in Manipur. The Mizoram MP said violence has been going on in Manipur for over a year. Since May of last year, more than 250 people have lost their lives in this violence. Vanlalvena advocated a two-tier solution to end caste violence in Manipur.
It is very important to impose President’s rule in Manipur-Mizoram MP
He said that it is very important to impose the President’s government for an immediate solution. Apart from this, the central government should study the situation thoroughly and demarcate the lands occupied by both the Meitei and the tribal communities. Due to which the hill tribes could not go to the valley and the Meitei people could not come to the mountainous areas. The two communities should be managed separately because the division is too wide. To achieve a permanent agreement, new administrative units should be created on the land occupied by both.
