India is continuously progressing in the field of defense over time. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested its long-range hypersonic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on November 16, 2024. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, armed forces and industry for the successful flight test of the country’s first long-range hypersonic mission.

He further said that this achievement has put our country on par with those countries that have such important and advanced military technology.
Why was the missile designed?
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has termed this achievement as historic. This hypersonic missile has been designed to carry various payloads with a range of over 1,500 km for all services of the Indian Armed Forces.

The missile was tracked through several ranging systems deployed in multiple domains. Flight data received from shorter-range ship stations confirmed the successful terminal maneuvers and impact with a high degree of accuracy.

The missile has been developed locally by laboratories at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad, along with several other DRDO laboratories and industrial partners. The flight test was prepared in the presence of senior scientists from DRDO and armed forces.
