Chandigarh News|Zirakpur: The city’s population has crossed the 6 lakh mark and there is only one Estpi for such a large population. Of its six engines, only two or three work. We told you that of the six engines installed here, 3 engines were malfunctioning for many years because the grease and oil were mixed in the city’s wastewater. The city council has not been able to stop him regarding the origin of the grease and oil. Although the entire line was checked from many locations by the Sewer Board and City Council for this grease and oil, it could not be found. Due to the leakage of this grease and oil, sludge has accumulated in the ESTP tanks.
Due to which ESTP is suffering losses and the mechanical process of ESTP also cannot function fully. First of all, the sludge on the surface of the tank has increased so much that even the air tube for processing has become blocked. Due to which the STP will restart only after completely emptying the STP tank, drying it and cleaning the pipe. So that sewage can be discharged into Ghaggar after treatment. Apart from this, the Sewer Board approved the budget and ordered two new machines, they are expected to be installed by December. The price of which is around Rs 12 lakh. Now the question arises whether the city can benefit from this 17 MLD ESTEP. According to officials, the 17 BMD ESTEP can treat only the sewage of a maximum population of one lakh. But if we talk about today, the population of the city has crossed the figure of 6 lakhs. For which it is necessary to have 70 to 80 MLD ESTP.
Due to the closure of the ETP for a month and a half, the city’s contaminated wastewater is being discharged into the Ghaggar River without treatment. While the Supreme Court has ordered that dumping contaminated water into any river, drain or natural water resource is an offense and action will be taken against them. But despite this, the city’s contaminated water is directly discharged into the Ghaggar. However, since NGT does not have an ETP based on the city’s population and releases contaminated water from Ghaggar, the Municipal Council is fined thousands of rupees every month. So the Municipal Council was preparing to establish a 22.5 ML D STP in the Sanauli area. But some friends have requested a judicial suspension. Whose hearing is taking place in court. The problem is that if the contaminated sewage continues to fall into the Ghaggar without being treated due to the repair of the ESTEP for three months, then it is a big problem.
