Let us tell you that the DUSU elections were held on September 27, in which 1.45 lakh eligible candidates participated.
Candidates will not be able to hold rallies, nor will they be able to burst cookies…
Let us tell you that Delhi University had asked all the candidates who participated in the students union elections to sign an affidavit. In this sworn statement they will take an oath not to use drums, loudspeakers, firecrackers or pamphlets on campus after the declaration of results. The affidavit also prohibits candidates from organizing tours or rallies to celebrate their victory. According to the affidavit, if these conditions are not met, the candidate’s victory may be annulled or he may be removed from elected office. The move is in line with existing election rules and comes amid a case filed in the Delhi High Court over damage to public property during the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections.
hence the delay
Candidates had until Sunday to submit this affidavit to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. We told you that the DUSU results were originally supposed to be declared on September 28, one day after the elections, but due to a court order it was delayed almost two months. The Delhi High Court stayed the declaration of results until the mess that had occurred at the site during the election campaign was cleaned up.
The university had filed a status report with the court, but it was delayed because the cleanup process could not be completed. Previously the results were due to be announced on November 21, but will now be published today. (With PTI input)
